Show Your Spark’s Fierce After Forty Project celebrates the beauty, strength, and wisdom of women over the age of forty.
Why celebrate women over the age of forty? We’ll tell you why!
Reaching the age of forty comes with a wide variety of experiences full of challenges and victories that create plenty of personal insights. Women over the age of forty have forged a way forward in their lives through the highs and lows and have overcome incredible odds. Each of these women now stands proud of who they are and the lessons they’ve learned from adversity.
How do we know this? Our mission with our Fierce After Forty Project is to highlight the strength, beauty, and wisdom of women through photography and storytelling. So, we asked each of our Fierce After Forty clients to share a bit of their story with us and what they want others to know about what it means to be a woman over the age of forty.
Self-described as resilient, empathetic, and a philanthropist, Spark Alumni Ginny is no exception to the fierce women we met through the Fierce After Forty Project. Not only has she overcome numerous challenges, but she bravely and proudly shares her story to advocate for others who have walked similar paths.

A “Soul-Searching” Journey
“Today, I am a confident, motivated, hopeful human being. I have done A LOT of soul-searching over the past four years and I am finally in a place of self-love and acceptance. I am doing meaningful work and am connecting with my children, family, and friends in a way that feels so good. I now truly understand putting myself first is not just words to pay lip service to, it is necessary for my own inner peace.”
Proud to be Fierce
“Someone fierce is someone who doesn’t take any bullshit! And yes that is me. But I do it with genuine kindness, not aggressiveness. Mama Bear does come out on occasion because I am a true advocate and will probably fight harder for others than I do myself, and that has always been my nature. I think of someone fierce, passionate, bold, powerful, and strong. I am proud to label myself Fierce.”
Conquering Mental Illness
“I have overcome many obstacles but the thing I am most proud of right now is conquering my mental illness and taking real steps to heal and move forward after my divorce. I decided to “come out” about my mental illness after the horrific incident in Duxbury when a Mom took her own children’s lives.”
Embracing Love
“Since stepping into this current decade of my life, I have learned that I am human and humans are terribly flawed. But we all have the capacity to love, to forgive, and to offer grace. I have also learned that I really do need to practice self-love and acceptance if I want to feel it.”
Valuing Alone Time
“Now I value time alone in ways I didn’t in my younger years. I love huge loud gatherings but my alone time to read, reflect, sleep, rest, listen to music, or just dance is so important and healing to me now.”
A Life to Live
“I want others to know that we, as women over forty, still have so much life left in us! We have so much to give and experience and wisdom that only comes with age. I am embracing these next few decades.”
“In the coming years, I am looking forward to spending more time on myself. I can’t pour from an empty cup so I am allowing myself the time and resources in my budget for my journey. I want to go on more retreats, attend more concerts, and have more dinner parties.”
Showcasing A Comeback Year
“When I really started to understand what Lindsay was doing with this project I wanted all in! I am proud to show my daughter who is only 23 that her Momma is a force to be reckoned with!”
“Being a part of this project has meant so much to me. This is my comeback year. No one tells how hard and traumatizing divorce is. I had to deal with mine after multiple losses, a cancer diagnosis, and covid. There were days I did not think I could make it, but I did.”
Advice to Her Younger Self
Her advice to her young self? “Find your tribe and love them hard. Give grace always. Be the friend you want to have. Know when a relationship is over and detach with love. ”
Strength in Vulnerability
“My Fierce After Forty photograph reflects the strength I have to be my truly vulnerable self.”
