Fierce After Forty: Embracing Your Authentic Self with Confidence

For many women, something shifts internally around the age of forty. It’s a time when confidence, self-acceptance, and agency come into play as women step fully into their power, embrace their authentic self with confidence, and begin to live their lives in their truth.

Today’s featured Fierce After Forty client, Jamie, shares a similar story. Transforming from a shy individual, she’s recently gained inner confidence to hide no longer. Self-described as determined, she fiercely advocates for herself and those in her sphere of influence. Her Spark Experience helped her see how much she has evolved this past year as she sought to display multiple sides of herself through her portraits.

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to claim your power in midlife, this encouraging story will shed some light on one individual’s story!

Give it a read as Jamie tells us of her transformation in her own words.

No Longer Hiding

“I work a full-time job, as well as run two small businesses and help my mom who has cancer. I am passionate about helping others and seeing them step into their authentic versions of themselves.”

“I used to be a shy person when I was younger. As I got older, I decided I was no longer going to hide behind myself. That’s when I started to go on solo vacations and go to concerts by myself, as I was tired of waiting for other people to do things with me. That attitude has stuck with me ever since. There was a switch that went off in my brain. Now, I am all about going out and doing the things that make me happy, with or without my people around me. I actually enjoy my own company. When everything is said and done, I don’t care what anything thinks of me because I like me and the woman I have become.”

Fierce and Healing

“The word ‘fierce’ means being tenacious, unbothered, and passionate about whatever life throws at you.”

“It is still a work in progress for me, yet I am proud of the amount of inner work and healing I have done in the past year. I am not the same person as I was a year ago compared to now. I never thought I would be where I am right now, on this emotional, mental, and spiritual level. I am also so proud of myself for pushing through anytime I was afraid to do something, as I didn’t let that little voice in my head talk me out of doing it.”

Living My Best Life With Confidence

“When you hit 40, you really start to not care about what others think of you. When I was in my 20s, I was so self-conscious. Now, though I still have a little bit of that to work through, I’m committed to not caring what others think and living my best life.

“To be a woman over forty means truly stepping into your power, beauty, and knowledge in the second half of your lives.”

Reflecting on the Fierce After Forty Project

“Being a part of a photography project highlighting the beauty and strength of women over forty has been amazing. It’s a wonderful club to be a part of and very inspiring to see other women over 40 doing their thing and rocking their sessions.”

Just by a few people seeing a handful of my images from the session, they expressed that they can see my “glow up.” It got me thinking that this version of me has always been there, but I was too afraid to show the world. Now, I am going to be more of my authentic self and just be me – a kind, compassionate, caring person who has firm boundaries and will not take any crap from people!”

Confidently Conveying the Light and Dark Sides of Myself

“I wanted to convey the light and the dark sides of myself through my Fierce After Forty portraits. We need both the light and dark to be a balanced person. I never really let the “dark side” – the edgier side of me show and I feel like these photos conveyed all that I was going for.”

“For someone on the fence about booking their own Fierce After Forty Experience, I encourage them to just do it. It is worth it. Treat yourself — it is about damn time you do something for you!”
