At the Show Your Spark Studio, we are honored to be a part of the healing path for many women through our luxurious, empowering portrait experiences.
After witnessing, first hand, the power of a friend’s Spark Session, our next featured client knew she desired a similar experience. As a result of various traumas, she had found herself disconnected from her body. She knew an empowerment portrait session would be the perfect way to reclaim that lost connection with herself and begin to see herself in a new light.
As a trauma-informed photographer, Lindsay Hite holds space for women in all stages of their life and healing journeys. She specializes in helping women reclaim that lost connection between body and mind through the power of photography.
Read on, to hear in her own words, the transformation that occurred in Miss H’s life as a result of her full-day Spark Experience.
Reclaim that lost connection
Due to previous traumas in my life, I struggled to connect with my body for the longest time. I never truly felt strong, sexy, or confident in life or in photos. The Spark experience came into my life at a time when I was finally taking active steps towards healing after years and years of neglecting my mental health. At last, I was finally moving in the right direction; still, something felt like it was missing. After learning more about what a Spark Session was, I realized that it would be an excellent opportunity to try and reclaim that lost connection with my physical self and see myself in a new light.
I didn’t realize how much I needed this in my life.
Ironically, the first session I attended was not my own but that of a close friend. After seeing the way Lindsay led each session and the way she was able to perfectly capture my friend, I knew she would be the perfect photographer to work with. It didn’t take long after my friend’s session for me to get in touch. The more I spoke with Lindsay leading up to the shoot, the more excited and confident I felt in my decision to book a Spark Session. I didn’t realize until I started planning outfits and making an inspiration board on Pinterest how badly I needed this in my life. I was so excited to see those photos!!
A completely different photography session
The nerves kicked in at the moment I parked in front of the studio. That was when reality sunk in. I was about to do my first boudoir/empowerment session. I had worked with other photographers before but I had never done boudoir. Interestingly, in my previous work with photographers, their vision was always my priority. I had never really thought about how I looked or felt.
When I sat down for hair and make-up, the nervousness I initially felt disappeared completely and the excitement was back. I felt so at ease and I knew this was going to be a completely different photography session from any I had previously done before.
Grinning from ear to ear
I was grinning from ear to ear between each set. With every new outfit and every new background in the studio, I grew more and more confident. I could tell Lindsay was getting excited as we went along as well, which made an impact. One of the bonus scenes, the Cinemascape portion of my shoot was the moment I felt totally and completely free. I really let myself bask in that moment. I didn’t even need to see the photos to know that I had achieved what I came for. However, when the time finally came to view the photos, I cried such happy tears. Never before had a photographer captured every facet of my personality so perfectly.
I have stepped into my power, and there’s no going back…
After having had a Spark Experience, I definitely walk through the world with more confidence than I did before. Knowing I have this session to reflect back on as well as photos I can revisit has made a world of difference in how I view my body and what it is capable of. I can’t fully explain how a one-day session was able to accomplish so much in terms of restoring my connection to my physical self…but it did.
After stepping into my power, there’s no going back for me. I still have a ways to go when it comes to prioritizing my mental health but seeing myself in this new light has helped immensely. The scars from my past trauma will always be there, but they have faded into the background. As I keep reminding myself…stars shine more brightly in the darkness anyway.
Each portrait includes a part of myself I thought I’d lost
Each portrait means something different to me as they capture different aspects of my personality. They include parts I thought I’d lost..soft, fierce, fun, sexy, and ethereal. However, the Cinemascape photos hold a special place in my heart.
There is also one photo in particular – a bare shoulder side profile where I am staring directly into the camera in a dark background, that still gives me goosebumps when I look at it. I look at that photo and, for whatever reason, it gives me strength.
Every woman needs a Spark Experience in their life.
I honestly and truly think that every woman needs a spark experience in their life. It has been such a positive experience in my life and one I will reflect on for years and years to come. At the very least, a day of pampering and fun is essential; and in my case, life-changing.
If I were to give a piece of advice it would be to shake away the nerves and don’t let yourself be trapped by preconceived notions of what a boudoir/empowerment shoot is or what looks good in photos. Let yourself be free and you will find your natural beauty staring right back at you.
