Embracing My Uniqueness
“I’m passionate about my family, animals, creating, and designing. I fill my days taking care of my children, chickens, and cats. I’ve also been volunteering at The Hotel for Homeless Dogs and working as a substitute teacher. I work on my art – photography, sewing, designing, and more.
I’m more confident than I used to be. I’ve been working on embracing my uniqueness and overcoming my awkwardness. I can see the humor in life and use it to overcome hard times.”
Discovering My Why
“For me, fierce means being powerful and embracing yourself.
I am a breast cancer survivor and a Crohn’s warrior. I was diagnosed with triple-positive breast cancer when I was 40. I learned that you need a why– your light in the dark to get you through the tough times. You need a goal for when it’s done so you have a future.
My children are my light, I may not be the world’s greatest mom, but I’m their mom. I’m blessed with a wonderful family and some close friends. They’re part of that light.
My future goal was to have chickens. That might sound silly, but it was something I knew I couldn’t have during treatment and had to wait for the doctors to approve. Now that I have chickens, I’ve set another goal.”
Learning What’s Important and How to Rest
“Since entering this decade of my life, I’ve learned what is important and that my family and friends were and are still there for me and my kids. I learned to push through the pain and also to rest. Well, ok, I’m still learning how to do that. I like being busy. I learned not to sweat the small stuff and to let it go when your world seems too much.
When I decided I didn’t want to return to work doing medical billing, my husband supported my choice. I wanted to try some new paths and discovered that I like substitute teaching.”
Affirming Life with New Mantras
“Being a woman over forty means I’m learning new things about myself. I’m not done! I am worthy of being. I’m enough. I can still begin new skills and hobbies and there is still time for me to do so.”
Lifting Each Other Up
“Being a part of a photography project highlighting the beauty and strength of women over forty has been so important. As we age, we’ve been told we aren’t as relevant in the beauty world. I’m finding that we are bold, strong, diverse, and beautiful. It’s wonderful to see these women come together and lift each other up.”
Showcasing Joy and Confidence
“My photographs show my joy and confidence. When I look at them, I see my strength, beauty, and the badass boss lady that I am. I see a happy smile and not a bittersweet one.”
