Have you allowed yourself to be seen through the lens of beauty?
At Show Your Spark, we hold sacred our role and mission to help women step into their confidence and reclaim their power. We help women see themselves through the lens of beauty and create custom-made products that stand the test of time, so they will never forget their Spark inside.
Too many women allow cultural expectations to define their value, worth, and “acceptable” outward appearances.
We are dismantling those ideas one Spark Client at a time as each woman enters our studio ready to ignite their inner spark.
As each client steps outside of the busyness of their lives into a Spark Session, they transform. Insecurities wash away as they see, sometimes for the first time, their unique, precious, and beautiful selves.
Today’s featured Spark Alumni’s experience continues to impact her life every time she looks at her artwork. The photographic evidence of her strength, courage, and beauty dismantle the doubts, worries, and negative thoughts that often fill her mind as she looks into a mirror.

“I tend to dodge pictures.”
I’ve always had a hard time viewing my body in a positive light. I tend to dodge pictures. Anytime a friend or family member compliments me, my brain rationalizes it as them trying to spare my feelings. I hoped that with some professional help, I could have photos that would let me see myself the way everyone in my life sees me.
My only goal: Have one picture I liked.
Heading into the session, I was incredibly nervous. My only goal was to have at least one picture that I liked. I was worried that, despite being styled by a hair and makeup artist, and with Lindsay’s talent behind the camera, I wouldn’t like the pictures. I spent most of my energy trying to calm my mind and relax. The nerves finally settled once my playlist started and Michelle enjoyed the music with me.
I have evidence of liking how I looked.
A lot of the time I wince when I see myself in the mirror. My Spark Experience and artwork changed all that. Now, when those moments happen, I remind myself that I have evidence of one time I liked how I looked. The only difference between now and then is a lack of professional make-up and styled hair, The foundation was and is me! Now when those moments come, the emotional intensity of the wince is a little bit lower.
I see a genuine smile.
My favorite portrait is the one where I am looking directly into the camera while standing in front of the cd wall. It is hard to choose a favorite, but looking into my eyes and seeing a smile that actually seems genuine is just really moving. I don’t think I’d ever seen that before my Spark Experience.
I now see what my loved ones see.
I would definitely recommend a Spark Experience for other women. If you’re considering it, but you’re nervous, just go for it. Come up with at least one concrete goal for the session, even if it’s just hoping for one good photo. If the Show Your Spark team could make me feel comfortable, and help me get a glimpse at what my loved ones see when they look at me, they can probably do that for anyone.
